Bridges
What Are Dental Bridges?
Bridges offer a fixed solution for replacing missing teeth, restoring both function and appearance. Bridges work by anchoring to your neighbouring remaining teeth, supporting a replacement custom-made tooth in the gap.

When Are Bridges Recommended?
- To replace a missing tooth
- As an alternative to dental implants
Benefits of Bridges
- Aesthetics – restores your smile
- Function – maintains proper bite alignment
- Stability – prevents unwanted movement of neighbouring teeth

Long-Lasting Results
With proper care, bridges can provide excellent results for many years.
Is a Bridge Right for You?
We will assess your suitability and discuss whether a bridge or alternative (such as an implant) is most appropriate.
Steps to Your New Bridge
-
Assessment
- We conduct a detailed initial assessment to ensure that your neighbouring teeth are healthy and strong enough to retain a bridge
-
Preparation of the neighbouring tooth/teeth surface
- Local anaesthetic is used to ensure you are comfortable throughout
- We then take impressions of the teeth
- We place a temporary bridge to protect the tooth and improve aesthetics and function whilst your bridge is being made!
-
Final placement of custom-made bridge
- After ensuring you’re happy the appearance and comfort is exactly what you expected, your personalised bridge is fitted with an appropriate dental cement
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my bridge look natural?
Modern materials have significantly improved the aesthetics of bridges. However, dental implants may appear more natural.
Do bridges damage neighbouring teeth?
Yes. The adjacent tooth/teeth need to be prepared in the same way as crowns to hold the bridge in place.
How long does it take to have a bridge fitted?
2 visits. The first to prepare the tooth/teeth and a second for bridge placement.
How long does a bridge last?
This depends on the type of bridge, choice of material, and ongoing care. Many last 10 years or more.
